Forged Solutions Group are proud to announce the successful completion of a major upgrade of their 5,600 Ton Screw Press, with the £3.5m investment completed in June 2020 at the company’s Darley Dale facility.
Undertaken with the goal of giving Forged Solutions Group greater capacity, repeatability and efficiency, the upgrade is the culmination of an 18-month project that was initiated at the end of 2018. This significant investment in its facilities helps to keep Forged Solutions Group at the leading edge of the industry, as well as ensuring the long-term capabilities of their services.
The 5,600 Ton Screw Press is the centrepiece of the 20,000 square metre site at Darley Dale in Derbyshire and produces critical rotating discs for a range of original equipment manufacturers in the aerospace industry.
The completed upgrade work ensures that Forged Solutions Group will continue to be fully equipped to meet the current and future demands of advanced technologies within the aerospace industry.
Ben McIvor, President of Forged Solutions Group, explains: “One of the critical aspects of executing the upgrade of the 5,600 Ton Screw Press was that of maintaining customer delivery. In order for the upgrade to be completed the equipment needed to be taken offline for two months. To overcome this, and to ensure the continued success of its customers, Forged Solutions Group had to ensure that this would not lead to a delay in production and delivery”.
The project timeline spanned almost 18 months, Ben continues: “A production buffer was created to protect our customers, with the ordering of raw material required to process sufficient product through the 5,600 Ton Screw Press before it was taken offline. Crucially, Forged Solutions Group’s customers were involved in this project every step of the way and were kept informed on a regular basis as to the progress of their products, maintaining trust along with continued supply. The combination of meticulous project planning and the excellent support of the employees at the Darley Dale facility meant the project has been a real success”.
